Nissan Announces Pricing on 2007 NISMO 350Z

Nissan North America, Inc. today announced pricing on the dramatic new 2007 Nissan NISMO 350Z, which goes on sale in July at Nissan dealers nationwide. The NISMO 350Z, which features an extensively developed list of unique equipment - including a special aerodynamics package and improved handling equipment, is the fifth model in the 2007 350Z Coupe lineup. It is available with a 6-speed manual transmission only and is offered at a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $38,070. Customers are able to pre-order 2007 NISMO 350Zs at Nissan dealers beginning today.

"This is the first time in the Nissan Z(R)'s 37-year history that a NISMO- branded model is part of the extensive Z(R) lineup," said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "NISMO is known around the world as the premier supplier of high-performance and racing parts and accessories for Nissan vehicles. The NISMO 350Z is geared towards enthusiasts who want the ultimate 350Z straight from the factory performance experts."

The most striking visual feature of the new NISMO 350Z is the NISMO aerodynamics package, which strongly resembles the Super GT championship winning Z(R)s. Featuring a functional front fascia with chin spoiler, side skirts, an extended rear fascia with underbody diffuser and a rear wing, the package produces additional aerodynamic downforce to provide enhanced cornering and handling performance. The NISMO 350Z is offered in four exterior colors - Redline Red, Magnetic Black, Silver Alloy and Pikes Peak White.

Additional performance features include a specially tuned independent multi-link suspension, Brembo brakes with four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers (with 12.8-inch front and 12.7-inch rear rotors) and special NISMO-branded gunmetal gray RAYS super-lightweight forged-alloy wheels (18x9- inch front and 19x10-inch rear with 245/40WR18 front, 265/35WR19 rear Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires).

The NISMO 350Z also offers enhanced structural rigidity through additional body welds and reinforcements, additional front structural bracing, special body dampers mounted in the front radiator core support and in the rear cargo area.

Inside, NISMO 350Z drivers receive special treatment with unique black cloth seats with red inserts, red stitching on the steering wheel and door panels and a special NISMO gray-faced tachometer. All NISMO 350Zs receive a NISMO-etched aluminum serialized plaque mounted on the center console, designating its limited edition status.

The NISMO 350Z includes a full complement of 350Z standard features, including the new VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 306 horsepower @ 6,800 RPM and 268 lb-ft of torque @ 4,800 RPM - with 240 lb-ft torque available between 2,000 and 6,400 RPM. Engine features include variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), a 7,500 rpm rev limit and a symmetric twin ram air intake system. A special NISMO-branded tuned exhaust adds an authoritative tone to the NISMO 350Z's 306-horsepower V6 engine.

The standard 6-speed manual transmission features close-ratio gearing from 1st through 5th gears for high-performance driving and an overdrive 6th speed for highway fuel economy. For enhanced handling, standard on the NISMO 350Z is a Traction Control System (TCS) and Viscous Limited-Slip Differential (VLSD).

"The NISMO 350Z is designed for enthusiasts who want a Z(R) that makes a statement and is a testament to their love of driving," said Bosley. "It has the appearance that stands out from the crowd and the performance to back it up."

In addition to the new NISMO 350Z, the 2007 350Z Coupe is offered in Base, Enthusiast, Touring and Grand Touring models. The 2007 350Z Roadster is offered in three models - Enthusiast, Touring and Grand Touring.

Audi R8 means business at Company Car in Action 2007

Business class high-fliers from the increasingly sought-after Audi range will be joined at next week’s Millbrook-based Company Car in Action event by two of the brand’s most aspirational sports models – the breathtaking RS 4 quattro high performance saloon and the unanimously acclaimed R8 sports car.

The state-of-the-art aluminium-bodied, mid-engined R8 sports car will be on static display at the Bedfordshire proving ground throughout the three-day Company Car in Action Drive and Decide event, which runs from the 19 th to the 21 st of June. The RS 4 quattro, which shares its potent 420PS V8 FSI petrol engine, will play a more mobile role in the hands of professional high performance drivers who will be offering guests ‘fast laps’ of the challenging handling circuits.

There will, of course, be plenty of Audi models at the disposal of the 1,500 key fleet decision makers scheduled to attend the Fleet News-backed CCIA test days. Highlights available for driving and appraisal will include the 265PS S3 quattro, the TT Coupe 2.0 TFSI S tronic and the Q7 3.0 TDI quattro SE. Firm fleet favourites including the A4 2.0 TDI S line saloon and the A6 2.7 TDI S line saloon with ultra-efficient multitronic continuously variable transmission will also be in attendance.

Nathan Dennis, Fleet Sales Marketing Manager at Audi UK, believes the importance of CCIA shouldn’t be under-estimated: “Company Car in Action is the biggest show of its kind and we felt we had to be there. We’re in the midst of an incredibly prolific launch phase that will continue into next year and beyond, and CCIA allows us to present our many newcomers, and established favourites, to our most valued clients in by far the most effective and memorable way possible,” he said.

Infiniti EX Concept revealed

The Infiniti EX Concept, which makes its world debut at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, follows in the tradition of previous Infiniti design studies with its combination of seductive design, elegant interior and advanced technology systems – including an advanced Around View Monitor (AVM) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system. And, like many of the Infiniti concepts that have come before, the new EX Concept is a very real preview of an upcoming production vehicle – the 2008 Infiniti EX crossover SUV.

“The Infiniti FX, M and most recently the new 2008 G Coupe, can all trace their evolution from show stoppers to Infiniti showrooms in a short period of time,” said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “With this stunning EX Concept, we’re pleased to announce that along with the basic exterior and interior designs, the production Infiniti EX will include much of the EX Concept’s innovative technology, including the Around View Monitor and Lane Departure Prevention.”

Coupe-Inspired Exterior

The EX Concept’s sculpted elegance expresses a timeless appeal – sleek lines that portray speed, grace and finesse. Its layout combines the look and feel of a luxury coupe – including short front and rear overhangs – and the ample interior roominess, optimised seating height and luggage space of an SUV.

“The EX Concept is the perfect fusion of a luxury coupe and a high-utility SUV,” said Igo. “Its ‘right-sized’ packaging gives it excellent around town manoeuvrability, while the wide rear hatch and low load floor make it a versatile performer for everyday and weekend use.”

The EX Concept exterior includes many signature Infiniti touches, including the double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights with Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights, distinctive LED taillights and “dynamic arch” profile. The exterior also features a high-mounted rear hatchback spoiler.

Special features created especially for the EX Concept are the all-in-one sash-style side door mirrors with integrated LED turn signals and electric outside door handles with push switches. The EX Concept also includes paint and 19-inch 7-spoke aluminium alloy wheels mounted with 245/55R19 tyres.

The most striking exterior design element of the EX Concept is its dramatic liquid crystal full-length glass roof panel that is able to change from transparent to translucent via input from a special touch sensor system.

“The EX Concept’s glass roof technology is a fascinating study in how technology can be utilised to change the entire interior atmosphere of a vehicle by adding or subtracting not just light, but the occupants’ view of the outside world,” said Igo.

Elegant Interior Design

Like all Infiniti vehicles, the EX Concept is conceived to offer a reinvigorating and engaging interior environment, one that is both indulgent and inspiring. The “wave-inspired” cabin layout is focused on the driver, with easy-to-read high-contrast gauges with violet-colour illumination and an electric soft-touch shifter system.

The EX Concept’s rich, leather-appointed and aluminum-alloy trimmed interior also offers plenty of passenger luxury – with deep, supportive seats and an ambient lighting system that includes special indirect headrest illumination.

A large, leather-appointed centre console box provides utility for driver and front passenger, while the instrument panel includes a wide LCD monitor and signature Infiniti analogue clock. The advanced audio system includes aluminium speaker finishers, matching the door-side trim. The roomy rear cargo area combines function with design with its aluminum-alloy flooring with luggage rails.

“The EX Concept’s interior is all about driving pleasure and passenger comfort,” said Igo. “Like the exterior, it offers a coupe-like feel but surprising utility – ideal for today’s active lifestyles.”

Advanced Platform and Powertrain

Under the EX Concept’s dramatic body is an equally advanced platform and powertrain based on the latest Infiniti production hardware. Its advanced FM platform provides the same high levels of handling precision and balance as it does for the Infiniti M, FX and G Coupe and Sedan. For use in the EX Concept, the wheelbase has been shortened to 112.0 inches for a small turning radius, while the rear multi-link suspension utilises a low shock absorber layout to enhance cargo area utility. It rides on 19-inch 7-spoke aluminium-alloy wheels with 245/55R19 tyres.

The EX Concept is powered by a V6 engine, coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The EX Concept also includes an all-wheel drive system.

The World Debut of Two New Technologies

The EX Concept’s advanced technology design is highlighted by two systems that are expected to be the first production versions in the world when the new Infiniti EX goes on sale in North America in late 2007.

The Infiniti Around View Monitor utilises small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to project an all-around view of potential objects on every side of the vehicle – helping reduce blind spots when parking.

“Conventional mirrors, no matter how carefully you use them, just can’t provide a view around the vehicle that the Around View Monitor’s four-camera system does,” said Igo. “Rear bumper sonar systems help detect objects behind a vehicle, but again they can’t give the view of the space around the vehicle that the AVM does.”

The Lane Departure Prevention system builds on the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system that is currently available on the Infiniti FX and M. Rather than just use an audible/visual warning system to alert the driver of unintentional vehicle movement outside the designated lane, the LDP system uses the vehicle’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position if the vehicle inadvertently starts to drift outside of the lane.

Both Lane Departure Prevention and the LDW systems use a small camera installed behind the windscreen to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle and calculate its position relative to lane markers and warn the driver of lane drift (pending lane change without use of the turn signal) with a visual display and audible buzzer.

If the driver does not return the vehicle in the direction of the centre of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver by using gentle control (generating part of the necessary yaw movement), using the VDC’s brake actuator to control the brake pressure of each individual wheel to generate the intended movement..

“Infiniti has taken a leadership position in offering the first production Lane Departure Warning systems for production vehicles. We’re now poised to take the next big step with the upcoming EX’s Lane Departure Prevention system,” said Igo. “We’re confident that the production Infiniti EX will be just as stylish, dramatic, luxurious and innovative as this EX Concept show vehicle. The line continues to be drawn.”

The Infiniti EX Concept was created at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan.

HUMMER H3 Right-Hand-Drive Unveiled

Bob Lutz, GM vice chairman, global product development, unveiled a prototype right-hand-drive H3 during the opening ceremony of a new HUMMER facility in Manchester, UK. “HUMMER’s iconic design and unparalleled off-road capabilities appeal to a wide audience globally. We are determined to build upon the brand’s unique recognition in Europe and especially here in the UK,” said Lutz.

The right-hand-drive HUMMER H3 will be assembled at GM’s Struandale plant in South Africa and will be available in other right-hand-drive markets, such as South Africa, Australia and Japan.

GM acquired the rights to the HUMMER brand in late 1999. The H3 made its debut in North America in May 2005 and helped make HUMMER one of the fastest-growing truck brands in the United States by the end of 2006. With its smaller, more efficient package, the H3 made the brand accessible to more customers, while still retaining the characteristics that make a HUMMER unique: iconic design and unparalleled off-road performance.

In addition to growth in the United States, HUMMER has shown significant expansion around the globe. HUMMER sales grew nearly 34 percent globally in 2006, with 82,000 vehicles delivered, compared with 61,000 in 2005. This performance was paced by the continued strength of the HUMMER H3.

While all previous H3s have been assembled in GM's North American facility in Shreveport, Louisiana, the new international H3, intended for most markets outside of North America, is being assembled at the Struandale Assembly Facility in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where GM invested more than $100 million to prepare for production of the H3.

HUMMER H3

Since the beginning, HUMMER vehicles have been in a class of their own, with extreme style and capability, unmatched by the competition. The latest chapter in the story is the HUMMER H3, designed in response to demand from global markets for a premium everyday driving vehicle, offering the legendary HUMMER performance.

Developed for markets around the world and built in South Africa, the H3 embodies HUMMER’s unique styling features and iconic shape. In addition, the H3 has a premium interior design and a 3.7-litre engine with the choice of a manual or automatic transmission and a full-time four-wheel-drive system.

H3 packs its authentic HUMMER style and capability into more compact dimensions. Compared to the HUMMER H2, the H3 is 39 mm shorter, 171 mm lower and 73 mm narrower. Roughly the same length as a larger family saloon, H3 can navigate city traffic, yet still deliver HUMMER’s trademark crawling and climbing capability off-road.

The 4,782 mm long HUMMER H3 is powered by General Motors’s Vortec 3.7-litre engine with dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing. Specifically designed for this type of vehicle, it delivers 242 hp/180 kW at 5600 rpm and 328 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm.

H3 is the first HUMMER ever to offer the choice of a manual or an automatic transmission. In addition to the Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission, a smooth-shifting five-speed manual transmission is available, offering ultimate driver control.

At the heart of the HUMMER H3’s capability is its electronically controlled four-wheel-drive system. The system is augmented with traction control, an optional locking rear differential and StabiliTrak stability control, which is offered as standard. The H3 can ford 407 mm deep water at 32 km/h or 610 mm deep streams at an 8 km/h pace, and climb 407 mm vertical steps or rocks.

This off-road performance is also aided by the “wheel at each corner” design giving a maximum approach angle of 37.5 degrees and maximum departure angle of 35.5 degrees. These approach and departure angles permit the H3 to drive into a hole and back out again, without getting hung up at the front or the rear.

The H3’s more compact size provides manoeuvrability advantages, such as an 11.3m turning circle, making equally easy work of parking manoeuvres or tight turns when off-roading. A 219 mm ground clearance and maximum breakover angle of 23.5 degrees make it possible to clear large obstacles in off-road driving.

Bugatti Veyron - one of the greatest achievements in automotive history

There are very few car companies left on the planet that will automatically get the attention of everyone in the room. Lamborghini still holds a mythic charm for some, as does Maserati and even Rolls Royce or Bentley. But if you want to talk exotic sports cars that will make you the envy of every other car on the road, there is only Bugatti. While the company name has come and gone and is now under the umbrella of Volkswagen, the Bugatti mystique has never lagged. Now, with the introduction of the Veyron, Bugatti has silenced any critics by producing one of the most incredible automobiles in history.

To say that the Veyron is unique is an understatement. At the time of this article, the Veyron is the most expensive, most powerful and fastest street legal road production car in the world. The Veyron has been tested at over 253 miles per hour, or 407 km/h. The Veyron is named after the famed Grand Prix driver of the same name who won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1939 in a Bugatti.

The Veyron boats 16 cylinders, only the second car after the Cizeta-Moroder V16 T to have 16 cylinders. The engine has four banks of four cylinders each and is the equivalent of twin narrow-angle V8’s, side by side. This monster engine is fueled by four turbochargers and it displaces eight liters.

One of the most amazing statistics about the Veyron is the fact that it has ten separate radiators: three to cool the engine, two for the air conditioning, four different ones for the oil system and one for the intercoolers.

If you’re wondering how much horsepower that huge engine can put out, the answer is: a lot. Testing of the Veyron showed its hp output at 1020 or so but the car is marketed as putting out 1001. Even at that rate, the Veyron is still the most powerful street legal car in the world.

If your palms aren’t sweating yet, some of the initial test numbers should do the trick. Not only can the Veyron reach over 250 mph, but it can go from zero to sixty in only 2.5 seconds. One of the interesting features of the Veyron is that once it reaches a speed of 137 miles per hour, hydraulics in the car automatically lower it to the ground so that you don’t end up taking off.

And how much can you expect to pay for this once in a lifetime vehicle? The price at the unveiling was 1.4 million dollars, or 737,000 British Pounds.

So, is it worth it? It really depends on your financial situation. If you can drop 1.4 million on a car and not notice a dent in your bank account, then sure, why not? Reviewers have called the Veyron one of the greatest achievements in automotive history, and if you can afford to have a piece of that, than by all means, go for it. But you better bring extra money for gas, the Veyron gets only 8 mpg city and 15 mpg highway.
